Haymarket's former art director, Gene Cornelius, used to play football for East London's Ruskin Arms, haunt of rockers Iron Maiden, before hanging up his muddy boots in pursuit of a career in design. Gene joined Freemans, shortly after leaving art school, to work on their fashion catalogues. "I worked with a lot of good studio photographers and began to understand the value of professional models and stylists." He decided to leave Freemans to hone his magazine and typography skills as an art editor on Morgan Grampian's venerable The Engineer (150 years old and now published by Centaur.) He later helped relaunch The Grocer, Marketing magazine and Management Today before joining Redactive in 2012 to work on their portfolio on contract publications. "So far I have managed to work with many great creatives, including Wayne Ford, Harry Borden and Gerald Scarfe. Long may that continue!"
